Pan Tailpiece The Pan tailpiece from the First Folio of Mr. William Shakespeares Comedies, Histories, & Tragedies (1623). The emblem is printed at the end of various plays. It first occurs at the end of the fourth play in the Folio, Measure for Measure, and then at the end of twenty-four further plays, including the last play in the Folio, Cymbeline, where it is printed on the very last page of the Folio. Illustrations of the various versions and uses of the Pan tailpiece, together with information concerning Pan as God of Arcadia and as representative of Knowledge, can be found in the books Arcadia and The Wisdom of Shakespeare in As You Like It by Peter Dawkins, published by the FBRT (Publications). FBRT members receive regular essays and discussion papers on these and other subjects. |
