Apollo Woodblock illustration on Page 34 of Henry Peacham’s book of emblems entitled Minerva Britanna, published in London in 1612 by Wa: Dight. The page is dedicated ‘To the most judicious, and learned, Sir Francis Bacon, Knight’, and bears the motto ‘Ex malis moribus bona leges’ (transl: ‘Out of the death of evil, a legacy of good’). Information concerning the cryptic nature of this emblem and the emblem book can be read in the book Dedication to the Light by Peter Dawkins, published by the FBRT (see Publications). FBRT members receive regular essays and discussion papers on these and other subjects. |
